Hello SD :-)

I spent over 2 years recently working in the auto industry, more specifically testing of powertrain (combustion engines, hybrid and EV). Talking to literally every single OEM you can find in Europe, China and the US. A few things were made clear to me. 1 — the rate of adoption of pure EV is grossly overstated. As long as you will not have as many charging stations as you have gas stations, and you can charge your car as fast as you put gas in it, forget about mass adoption (though it will happen…but not as fast as the pundits make it sound). 2 — there are serious issues with pure EV, and cold weather is one of them. I live in Montreal. We just wen thru 3 weeks of really cold weather. EV needs to deal with these weather conditions. Right now, they don’t . 3 — lastly, every single OEM I talked to is pouring $B into EV. It is massive. By 2024, GM will have more EV in their car line up than combustion engines cars. Watch for the BMW, Audi, Porsche, Daimler, etc to come up with amazing cars. More than competitive on the performance and comfort front, rightly priced and DURABLE and MAINTANABLE. Because these companies understand that building a car is one thing, making it maintainable is something else. Tesla does not know how to support the entire car ownership life cycle. They made stuff for “fans”. Great. People do not buy cars because they are “fans”. They buy a way to reliably and cheaply go from one place to the other (other than folks who want to own a status symbol which Tesla is). There is no such thing as a 1st mover advantage in the car market. Personal story: I have bought Honda (and Acura) vehicles since 1987. Why? They simply work. Period. I will eventually buy an electric vehicle (but not now). Guess what is the first dealership where I will go? Honda because they have provided me with 100% reliability for many many years. There are 100 of millions of folks like me. Tesla will not survive what’s coming…they don’t build cars. They build hype to that Musk can get rich and be on the front cover of newspapers as a “genius”…
